D. Trent Lowery, MD
Dr. Lowery is a long time Alabama native and attended Birmingham-Southern College followed by the University of Alabama Medical School where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed a General Surgery internship at the University of Virginia followed by a residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Dr. Lowery has been in practice around Birmingham for more than 20 years and specializes in a broad range of disorders of the ear, nose and throat. His main interests include treatment of allergic and sinus disorders, surgery of the thyroid, voice disorders and pediatric ENT.
Dr. Lowery resides in Birmingham with his wife and 4 children. He is an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He enjoys cycling, running, swimming, camping, travel and spending time with his family.
David M. Walters, MD
Dr. Walters was born at Clark Air Base in the Philippines and grew up in Dallas, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University with a double major in economics and finance. He worked for several years in the banking and software industries before attending and graduating from Texas Tech University HSC School of Medicine. He completed a General Surgery internship and residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA.
Following residency, Dr. Walters moved to Birmingham and practiced with a large ENT group for nine years. He left Birmingham briefly to join a small group practice in Columbus, Georgia, where he covered both St Francis Hospital & Piedmont Columbus Regional providing all aspects of adult and pediatric otolaryngology services including facial trauma. He returned to Birmingham in 2018 joining Dr. Lowery at Southern ENT & Sinus Center. Dr. Walters enjoys treating a broad range of adult and pediatric ENT disorders with an emphasis on allergy, laryngeal & voice disorders, sinus surgery, head & neck cancer and pediatric ENT. Dr. Walters has been recognized on the B-Metro Top Doctors in Otolaryngology for 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018.
Dr. Walters resides in Birmingham with his wife and 4 children. He enjoys water sports and all aspects of spending time with his family at Lake Martin. He is an avid golf fan and enjoys watching his children participate in their respective sports and extracurricular activities.
Matthew M. Fort, MD
Dr. Fort was born and raised in Meridian, MS and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi. He then received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with cum laude honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Following medical school, he completed a General Surgery internship and Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Dr. Fort specializes in all aspects of clinical and surgical ENT issues. His clinical interests include disorders of the ear and sinus as well as comprehensive head and neck cancer treatment and pediatric ENT. He is particularly interested in treatments for hearing preservation and emerging trends in otologic surgery.
Dr. Fort resides in Birmingham with his wife, Colette, and enjoys bread-making, cooking, hiking, fishing and travel.
Holly Broyles, AuD, CCC-A
Holly is a native of Trussville, Alabama, and is a graduate of Hewitt-Trussville High School. Holly earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Tennessee in 2006. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Auburn University in 2002.
Holly is certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and is licensed by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. She has been practicing Audiology and dispensing hearing aids since 2006.
Holly is passionate about building long-lasting relationships with her patients, as well as, working alongside their families to improve quality of life through better hearing. In her free time, Holly enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and crocheting.
Laura McGarr, CCC-SLP
Laura is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with a special interest in voice disorders and treatment. Laura received both her Bachelor and Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Montevallo. During her graduate coursework, Laura discovered her love for voice therapy while completing an externship in the Otolaryngology department at The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Kirklin Clinic. Since that time, Laura has sought out continued experiences with the diagnosis and treatment of voice disorders in a variety of medical settings.
Laura was born and raised in Birmingham but is a die-hard Georgia fan. She loves her husband (David), her two dogs (Boomer & Cappie), and dark chocolate.
