D. Trent Lowery, MD

Otolaryngologist

D. Trent Lowery, MD, is an experienced otolaryngologist serving patients at Southern ENT & Sinus Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Lowery is a long time Alabama native and attended Birmingham-Southern College before earning his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, followed by a residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He has been in practice in the Birmingham area for more than 20 years and specializes in a broad range of disorders of the ear, nose, and throat. Dr. Lowery’s main interests include treatment of allergic and sinus disorders, surgery of the thyroid, voice disorders, and pediatric ENT.

Dr. Lowery resides in Birmingham with his wife and four children. He is an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He enjoys cycling, running, swimming, camping, travel, and spending time with his family.

David M. Walters, MD

Otolaryngologist

David Walters, MD, is an accomplished otolaryngologist at Southern ENT & Sinus Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Walters enjoys treating a broad range of adult and pediatric ENT disorders with an emphasis on allergy, laryngeal and voice disorders, sinus surgery, head and neck cancer, and pediatric ENT. He has been recognized in the B-Metro Magazine for Top Doctors in Otolaryngology from 2015-2018.

Dr. Walters was born at Clark Air Base in the Philippines and grew up in Dallas, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University with a double major in economics and finance. He then worked for several years in the banking and software industries before graduating from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Following his residency, Dr. Walters moved to Birmingham and practiced with a large ENT group for nine years. He left Birmingham briefly to join a small group practice in Columbus, Georgia, where he attended to patients at St. Francis Hospital and Piedmont Columbus Regional, providing all aspects of adult and pediatric otolaryngology services, including facial trauma. He returned to Birmingham in 2018, joining D. Trent Lowery, MD, at Southern ENT & Sinus Center.

Dr. Walters resides in Birmingham with his wife and four children. He enjoys water sports and spending time with his family at Lake Martin. He is an avid golf fan and enjoys watching his children participate in their respective sports and extracurricular activities.

Matthew M. Fort, MD

Otolaryngologist

Matthew Fort, MD, is a highly skilled otolaryngologist at Southern ENT & Sinus Center. He is proud to provide patients in Birmingham, Alabama, with a wide range of ear, nose, and throat services.

Dr. Fort was born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Mississippi. He then received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, graduating with cum laude honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following medical school, he completed a general surgery internship and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He specializes in all aspects of clinical and surgical ENT issues. Dr. Fort’s clinical interests include disorders of the ear and sinus, as well as comprehensive head and neck cancer treatment and pediatric ENT. He is particularly interested in treatments for hearing preservation and emerging trends in otologic surgery.

Dr. Fort resides in Birmingham with his wife, Colette, and enjoys baking bread, cooking, wood working, hiking, music production and traveling.
